Yesterday we left Ferryville, WI after a very pleasant stay in the Sugar Creek Campground. Our only complaint was the hourly train that would pass by only 100ft from our tent. You could feel the vibrations from the ground! Besides the train Ferryville, Wisconsin is a must stop town if your are driving along highway 35 south of La Crosse, WI. The quiet little town is home to some great scenery, awesome food, and very friendly people. Elliot and I were very glad to have gotten the chance to camp their, in lieu of a train filled apocalyptic night.
After meeting and having a very nice conversation Friday morning with Bob M. Elliot and I decided we would enjoy the short 25 mile ride into Prairie Du Chien and relax in the beautiful scenery that surrounded us. We have been told that this section of highway 35 south has been rated as Americas top scenic drive, beating out the Grand Canyon, and the Pacific Coast Highway. And is always on the top of the chart year after year.
Around every turn seems to be another breathtaking view of the bluffs, or some form of wildlife. I've lost count of the number of Bald Eagles I have seen over the last 150 miles.
After meeting up with Elliot's parents in Prairie Du Chien, we feasted on an incredible spread that Elliot's mother Lori provided for us. It always a treat to spend time with Dan and Lori. (my second parents) We ended the evening in the hotels small tavern shooting several games of pool and feeding the jukebox all night!
After waking up this morning to another chilly and crummy day, we prolonged our departure from the hotel and found ourselves back in the hottub after breakfast. It's very hard to go from camping and a primitive life on the bicycle to a hotel with a hottub!
After a quick trip to Wally World with Lorie, Elliot and I were forced to say our goodbyes, and hit the road.
About thirty seconds into the ride I realized today was going to suck. It's cold and I hate the cold, especially while riding. So I made us pull over only 15 miles up the road and here we are at Wyalusing State Park!
Today has been a complete bust, but at least we have a great view from on top off the bluffs! Illinois bound tomorrow.
