Our ride from St. Cloud to Dayton yesterday took about 4.5 hrs to complete. It was another beautiful day for riding and for the first time on the trip Elliot and I felt great! We are finally acclimated to this temporary lifestyle of camping and riding. We finally have our riding legs and are enjoying riding more each day.
Last night we stayed at our friend Mark S. parents house in Dayton. Dave and Paula are simply the best. They took Elliot and I in like family and helped us recharge our batteries and spirits. It was an added bonus that Mark ended up staying the night with us as well! After an amazing dinner and a relaxing evening Elliot and I ended the night around a fire sharing stories and enjoying the company of Mark and his parents.
After a real breakfast for the first morning of this trip(french toast, sausage) we said our goodbyes to Mark and his lovely parents and hit the road. We took off from Dayton headed toward St. Paul, MN. After stopping for directions near Brooklyn Park, MN a friendly cyclist approached us. Brett G. decided since we were headed in the same direction he would help us get through the cities and brought us right to his house to wait for our friends to pick us up for the night. Brett not only invited us in, he also took the time to help us with our route through the cities for the next days ride. He also gave us some great insight on the roads and direction we were headed for the next couple days, and he even hand drew is some maps to help us get out of St. Paul! We appreciate everything Brett! We have your address and will be in touch soon!
After waiting a rain storm out at Brett's house, our good friends Matt V. and Dalton S. picked us up in truck and transported us over to their apartment for the night. They even cooked us dinner! Great guys!
Tomorrows weather is still in question, not sure what the plan will be yet. For the rest of the night Elliot and I are fortunate enough to have another night with a good meal, a hot shower and in good friends company! Dalton dropped us off 9 days ago in Lake Itaska State park, and today we are lucky enough to share more of this special trip with him. Thank you for all your help! Matt, we also thank you for driving and coming to get us and cooking for us tonight!
Elliot and I would also like to say another big thank you to Zach, Mitch, Mark, Dave, Paula, Brett, Dalton and Matt! These last few days have been amazing and we thank you for your generosity and hospitality!
-Michael
